LOOKbetween 2010

The inaugural LOOKbetween event in June 2010 was equal parts a celebration of the work of developing photographers and a discourse on the emerging trends and practices in the photographic industry. Held on a farm outside Charlottesville, the weekend was dedicated to the engagement of ideas in a setting designed to foster interactions among people. Most attendees chose to camp on the farm and everyone shared meals together under a big tent next to the beautiful barn. 

LOOKbetween assembled developing artists, editors, publishers, teachers, and professional photographers to celebrate and explore the future direction of photography. The daytime discussion sessions were dedicated to specific topics such as new approaches to publishing, creative processes, digital workflow, developing a brand, building alliances, and other issues in need of urgent deliberation. 

Each evening after dinner attendees gathered on the hillside for outdoor projections of work by the 100 invited artists. Showcasing the work of these talented photographers was a major focus of the weekend. Many of the photographers told us it was magical to see their work in such a breath-taking setting.
